Community Support and Education
We provide Nassau County, FL residents with information about the dangers of extreme hot and cold in our area and how to recognize danger signs of the impact on extreme conditions to the health and safety of residents.
COOLING CENTER
When the heat index forecast exceeds 102F, we will open a Cooling Center from 11AM - 5PM at the First Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 12 South 9th Street, Fernandina Beach. Look for the sandwich board to see if we're open, or look for posts on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563511733286

Partnering to provide safe conditions for our residents
The Nassau County Extreme Weather Coalition is supporting the Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County in providing overnight shelter when the temperature prediction falls below 40F. The shelter is located at the MLK, Jr Center at 1200 Elm Street in Fernandina Beach. Volunteers are always needed, please sign up below!
Be a Volunteer!

Extreme Weather Coalition Meetings
The only thing stopping us from opening our first Cooling Center is that we need volunteers. Once enough people register to help, we will schedule a training so our good-hearted helpers feel equipped for and secure about the tasks! We've missed the window for 2024, but we plan to be ready to go as soon as the heat arrives.
Seeking Cooling Center Volunteers!
We hold regular meetings and invite any members of the community to participate.
